Data Entry Clerk/Administrative Assistant


We are seeking a Part-Time Data Entry Clerk/Administrative Assistant. This person will maintain internal record systems by entering data from various source documents into computer systems for storage, processing and data management. This position will work closely with the Office Manager and Development Director, assisting with clerical and administrative duties during day to day operations. Other Job Responsibilities include sorting and distribution of zoo mail, office and financial tasks for Office Manager, assistance with a variety of fundraising-related tasks for the Development Director and a range of duties in the zoo's various customer service areas. Candidates must have a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED), plus a minimum of one year related experience and/or training in financial data entry. Must be computer literate and have the ability to be proficient with QuickBooks, CounterPoint POS system, Greater Giving software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).A bookkeeping, accounting, and/or business degree is a plus. This is a part-time, year-round, regular position with a starting pay of $13.00 per hour, estimated 16 to 20 hours per week. Hours will primarily be between 8am-6pm, with occasional weekends required in association with zoo events. Schedule to be determined. Seasonal, Part-time Customer Service Positions


Looking to fill positions in our Admissions, Gift Shop and Coffee Shop

We are looking for applicants who enjoy a family environment, both with the zoo staff and patrons, for Part-Time Seasonal staff positions in admissions, gift shop and coffee shop to start in March. Primary duties depend on the customer service area, and include, but are not limited to, the following: The use of POS registers and cash handling (all areas), answering visitor questions (all areas) selling tickets and annual passes (admissions), selling concessions food (admissions), straightening and restocking merchandise (gift shop and coffee shop), food preparation and barista duties (coffee shop). Positions will be based in one of the three areas (admissions, gift shop or coffee shop), but will also cross-train to provide coverage as needed. Successful staff members working in our customer service areas will have excellent cash handling and math skills, be able to handle high volume rushes of customers in a friendly manner, be self-motivated and take initiative to keep busy cleaning, restocking, or completing projects during slower periods. The successful candidate will be cheerful, attentive, and courteous to visitors and staff, both in person and on the phone. Work well independently and as a team member. Must have excellent cash handling and math skills. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Must provide proof of or have the ability to get a current food service CHARR card within 30 days of hire for municipality compliance for food service. Customer service experience is preferred. The zoo is open 7 days a week. Shifts of normally 3-8 hours will be scheduled to cover the hours of 9:30am-5:30pm daily in March and April, 8:30am-6:30pm daily in May and September, and 8:30am-9:30pm daily June through August. Occasional later hours might be required for rentals or public events. Starting pay for customer service part-time seasonal positions are paid $10 per hour and normally end in September. We may choose to have some staff continue on-call or part-time through winter hours.

Distance Learning Coordinator, Education Department

The Alaska Zoo Education Department is presently seeking a qualified individual for the Distance Learning Coordinator position. This permanent, full-time position involves developing and leading videoconferencing distance learning programs, distance learning program coordination, booking and invoicing, and assisting with various education events and presentations. Animal experience is essential and candidate must be willing to handle a variety of education ambassador animals, including but not limited to reptiles, birds and mammals. Candidate must possess the ability to work well individually and as a team, and must be comfortable instructing and presenting to all age groups. Excellent communication, organization and time management skills are a must. The ability to develop science-based program activities built to educational standards with a creative flare is also essential. Candidate must have a clean background and submit to a full background check, in addition to holding a valid Alaska driver's license. Work hours will vary with some evenings, overnights and weekends required based on program schedules. This is a full-time, year-round, permanent position with benefits.
