Spring is our most active time for summer seasonal hiring and most of these positions are in customer service. Full-time positions come open from time to time. Positions will be posted to this page as they open. We also offer internships.

Seasonal, Part-time Customer Service Positions

Looking to fill positions in our Admissions, Gift Shop and Coffee Shop

We are looking for applicants who enjoy a family environment, both with the zoo staff and zoo patrons, for part-time seasonal staff positions to start in March. Primary duties depend on the customer service area, but include: Selling tickets and annual passes (admissions), answering visitor questions (all areas), selling concessions food (admissions), straightening merchandise (gift shop), running cash registers (all areas), food preparation and barista duties (coffee shop). Positions will be based in one of the three main areas (admissions, gift shop or coffee shop), but will also cross-train to provide coverage as needed. Staff members working in our customer service areas must be cheerful, attentive to visitors, courteous on the phone, able to maintain cleanliness in the work space, able to work well independently and as a team member. Excellent cash handling and math skills are a must. Positions in all areas require the ability to handle high volume rushes of customers as well as being self-motivated keeping busy cleaning, restocking or completing projects during slower periods. Requires lifting of up to 50 pounds. Must provide proof of or have the ability to get a current food service CHARR card within 30 days of hire for municipality compliance. Customer service experience is preferred. The zoo is open 7 days a week. Shifts of normally 3-8 hours will be scheduled to cover the hours of 9:30am-5:30pm in March and April, 8:30am-6:30pm daily in May and September, and June through August 8:30am-9:30pm. Occasional later hours might be required for rentals or public events. Customer service seasonal positions normally end in September.

Seasonal Summer Camp Coordinator

The Alaska Zoo Education Department is presently seeking a qualified individual for a Seasonal Camp Coordinator position. This seasonal, full-time position involves developing and leading Summer Adventure Camps, as well as assisting with various education events and presentations. Candidate must possess the ability to work well individually and as a team, and must be comfortable instructing and presenting to all age groups, especially children. Excellent communication, organization and time management skills are a must. The ability to develop science-based program activities with a creative flare is also essential. Candidate must have a clean background and submit to a full background check, in addition to holding a valid Alaska driver’s license. Work hours will vary with some evenings and weekends required based on program schedules. This position will be hired to work starting around April 17th through the end of August and the pay is $13/hour. Candidate must possess the ability to work well individually and as a team, and must be comfortable working with and around all age groups, especially children. Excellent communication, organization and time management skills are a must. Candidate must have a clean background and submit to a full background check, in addition to holding a valid Alaska driver’s license. Work hours will vary with some evenings and weekends required based on program schedules. This position will be hired to work starting around May 8th through the end of August and the pay is $10/hour.
