Let Us Take You on a Walk through the Zoo!

We offer many tour experiences with either staff or trained volunteer guides. All tours include elements of behind-the-scenes animal encounters, combined with natural history and conservation information provided by the guide.

Tour Options

Notes for all tours: Children and students are considered ages 3 to 17. Adults are considered age 18 and older. Annual zoo passes cannot be applied to tour rates as the rates cover staff time, volunteer training and tour preparation.

Discovery Tours (SUMMER ONLY, May 22 - September 4, 2017, daily and open to all, no reservations, pay on tour day at admissions)

  • Audience: Walk-in visitors, tourists, local residents, all ages
  • Tour package: 2 hours, behind-the-scenes encounters at polar bear, gray wolves and Amur tiger habitats.
  • Tour fee: $20 per child, $28 per adult (includes zoo admission and tour)
  • Payment: At admissions on the day of the tour.
  • Schedule: 12:15pm to 2:15pm daily, no advance scheduling, open to all visitors 7 days a week during summer season, available daily from May 22-September 4, 2017.

Guided Encounters (students and education groups only)

  • Audience:  Students and education groups, grade 3 and older
  • Tour package:  1.5 hours, with one behind-the-scenes encounter at our polar bear, gray wolf or Amur tiger habitat (your choice, as available).  Minimum of 10 people required.
  • Tour fee:  $12 per student, $15 per adult (includes zoo admission and tour)
  • Payment:  At admissions on the day of the tour
  • Schedule:  Must schedule in advance with education staff

Alaska Zoo Tours (families and visitor groups only)

  • Audience:  Visitor groups, families, mixed ages
  • Tour package:  1.5 hours, with one behind-the-scenes encounter at our polar bear, gray wolf or Amur tiger habitat (your choice, as available). Minimum of 5 people required.
  • Tour fee:  $15 per child, $20 per adult (includes zoo admission and tour)
  • Payment:  At admissions on the day of the tour
  • Schedule:  Must schedule in advance with education staff

Private Tours

  • Audience:  Small groups, mixed age, limited to 6 participants or fewer
  • Tour package:  2+ hours, multiple behind-the-scenes encounters throughout the zoo, may be conducted outside of open zoo hours, guide is Zoo Director Patrick Lampi who will share personal stories and animal information.
  • Tour fee:  Minimum $300 donation per group (includes zoo admission and tour)
  • Payment:  Payment should be arranged with guide before the day of the tour
  • Schedule:  Must schedule in advance with Zoo Director
