Description: "Tuesday Night at the
Zoo" is a summer evening lecture series with a different education
program each Tuesday night. Programs are for a mixed age
audience, with elements included for kids and adults alike. |
|
Program Info: Open attendance,
programs begin at 7:00 PM on the Coffee Shop lawn, zoo open late
until 9:00 PM, length is approximately 40 minutes, no additional
charge beyond regular admission, annual passes do apply, covered
areas in the event of rain. |

Polar Bears/Climate Change |

- Learn how polar bears are being impacted by
climate change and sea ice loss.

Drawing Zoo Animals |

- Artists lead the group in learning to draw
zoo animals using realism and musculoskeletal features.

Life as a Zoo Vet |

Dr. Riley Wilson, DVM, Pet Stop |
- Our zoo veterinarian discusses his job and
uses zoo education animals to demonstrate important health
factors in different species.

Big Cat Chat |

- Zookeepers discuss their work with the zoo's
largest feline residents and their endangered status in the
wild. Program will include enrichment for the cats.

species on our planet are insects? Explore the fascinating
world of bugs and take a "Bug Walk" on our Coffee Shop lawn.

- Dr. Reading from the Denver Zoo and
Earthwatch will discuss his research experiences with wild
Bactrian camels and other Mongolian wildlife. Program
includes a visit from our Bactrian camel Tula.

- Eagle handlers from Bird Treatment and
Learning Center will bring both a golden and a bald eagle for a
presentation on their differences and similarities.

Training Zoo Animals |

Margaret Whittaker |
- Margaret, an animal behavior consultant with
Active Environments, will teach visitors the basics of animal
training and share exciting stories of her work with a variety
of zoo animals. She was also a member of the "Maggie
Migration" training team.

Reptile Rap |

- Learn about our scaly friends through
hands-on encounters with live reptiles from the collections of
both the zoo and Imaginarium.

Porcupines of Alaska |

- Explore the lives of wild porcupines in
Alaska and their current status. Program will include a
visit from our female porcupine Daisy.

Batty for Bats |

- Learn how these amazing flying mammals
survive in Alaska and how you can help scientists learn about
them through Citizen Science. Program will include
hands-on bat items and free Alaska bat posters.

Marine Mammal Strandings |

- Elizabeth from the Alaska SeaLife Center in
Seward will tell stories of how marine mammals become stranded
in Alaska and how citizens can report strandings.
Interactive program with many props and hands-on items.

Meet our Wolf Pack |

residents! Program will include hands-on wolf artifacts
and encounters with our wolf pack.

Animal Enrichment |

- Learn why enrichment is an important aspect
of animal care at zoos. Program will include three
hands-on enrichment projects, with audience participation at
exhibits.
