Self-Guided Safari
Description:  Bring your education group for a self-guided walk around our trails at a special education rate (for education groups only - see below).  Enjoy observing animals, reading interpretive signs, relaxing in our picnic pavilion, and visiting our Gift & Coffee Shops.
 
What is considered an Education Group?
  • An organized group of children/students taking a field trip to the zoo for an educational activity as part of an organization.
  • Must be led by a teacher, camp leader, troop leader, counselor, or professor.

To Schedule During School Year:  Contact Marva Stevens with Anchorage School District Community Resources to schedule, stevens_marva@asdk12.org, (907) 742-4147.  All groups should schedule Self-guided Safaris through Marva, including schools outside of the A.S.D.
To Schedule During Summer Months:  Contact klarson@alaskazoo.org, (907) 346-2858 (Zoo Education Office).

 
  • Your group will self-tour the zoo.
  • Download our "Self-guided Safari" information packet (PDF).  May be duplicated.
  • Adult chaperones must be with children at all times.
  • Adult : Child ratios = 1:5 for kids under age 12, 1:10 for kids age 12 and over.
  • Groups out of ratio may be denied entry on zoo grounds for liability reasons.
  • Groups who show poor conduct, run, shout at animals, throw items, or climb over fences will be escorted off grounds for the safety of the children and our animals.
 
Program Type: Fees:
Self-guided Safari Education Rate:  $5.00/student, $7.00/adult, teacher.
  Fees are paid at Admissions upon your arrival.
  One form of payment per group is required.
  A completed admissions form is required.
This education rate is considered a "group rate" and only applies to persons entering the zoo with their group.  Individual group members arriving or paying separately may be charged full admission (up to the discretion of Admissions staff).
