Polar Bear Programs
|
|
Description: As the Earth's climate
changes, concerns are growing over the loss of sea ice. This
is the habitat polar bears rely on for hunting ringed seals, so
their future is uncertain as the ice loss continues. Our
polar bear programs are a result of a partnership between the zoo
and
Polar Bears International
and we provide a unique perspective on this issue through
mentorship student presenters and using our polar bears as models
to learn about the species. Both field trip and outreach
programs available. |

- Polar Bear Field Trips: Meet our
polar bears up close and personal with a full behind-scenes
encounter at their exhibit, including a den building tour.
Our mentorship student presenter and/or zoo staff will provide a
20 - 30 minute program on polar bears and the impacts of climate
change on their habitat in our indoor greenhouse presentation
area. Approximate time: 1.5 hours.
- Polar Bear Outreach: Let our
student presenter and staff come to your classroom or community
organization to present on the topic of climate change and polar
bears. Format is a PowerPoint presentation with hands-on
polar bear items. Suitable for all ages over grade 2.
For younger age groups, we also have an interactive sea ice game
to illustrate what is happening with polar bears in the wild.
Approximate time: 45 minutes - 1 hour.
